Disbursement of Funds

Federal Pell, SEOG, and LEAP grant funds are released in the business office beginning on the first day of classes to those students with a complete financial aid file and who have no outstanding bookstore charges.  Note:  Loans and scholarship proceeds will not be released until the money is actually received from the lender (bank) or the scholarship donor.

Students who have charges in the bookstore will not have funds released until they have closed their account in the bookstore.  (The student must take action to notify the Bookstore staff that no further purchases will be charged.) Once notified, the following will occur:

The Bookstore staff will notify the Financial Aid staff when charges have been posted to their university account.

The Financial Aid staff will then release funds which will be mailed to this campus from the Las Cruces campus.

Funds will reach the business office approximately one week after the bookstore account has been closed.

Funds will be disbursed to students who have a picture ID plus verification of their Social Security number.

Students may check their financial aid status at any time by going to the NMSU home page at www.nmsu.edu/ONLINE.
